Caulfield winners face riding bans

Saturday 16 July 2016, 6:52pm

Caulfield winners Chris Symons and apprentice Regan Bayliss have been suspended on careless-riding charges.

Riding second placegetter Trevinder in the Saturday's main event the Group Three Sir John Monash Stakes, Symons was found guilty by Racing Victoria stewards of causing interference early in the race.

Stewards said Symons' actions in allowing Trevinder to shift in soon after the start caused Tudor, ridden by Craig Newitt, to be checked and Weinholt (Luke Currie) and Olivier (Harry Coffey) to also suffer interference.

Symons, who also won the final race on Beirut, pleaded guilty to the charge and was outed for nine meetings after he rides at Pakenham on Sunday.

The record of Bayliss counted against the young rider when he was suspended for 10 meetings on a careless-riding charge in the final race aboard Anyaas.

Saturday's suspension was the sixth time in 2016 the apprentice has been suspended, which included a 21-day ban after causing a fall at Sandown.

His suspension starts immediately and he is free to return at the Sandown meeting on July 27.

Bayliss won the opening race on Sebrikka.
