Legal to proceed to middle distances

Central Queensland three-year-old Legal Procedure will take the first step towards a possible middle distance career when he comes to town to race at Eagle Farm.

Legal Procedure returns to Brisbane for the first time in six months in Saturday's Powertrain Three-Year-Old Plate (1500m) in which he will be ridden by Damian Browne.

The gelding raced in Brisbane in January, finishing third and just behind the placegetters in two starts at Doomben.

Legal Procedure has won six races in central Queensland and was burdened with 60kg when he won at Rockhampton two starts back.

Trainer Lyle Rowe is keen to chase the last of QTIS bonus money for three-year-olds and also wants to get Legal Procedure to Eagle Farm.

It is a track which brings back memories for former jockey Rowe who won the 1967 Stradbroke Handicap there on Mr Hush.

"I think Eagle Farm will suit him. He is a horse who likes big spaces and I don't think he handled Doomben very well on his last trip to Brisbane," Rowe said.

"I have been able to get Damian to ride him and he is as good as any jockey in Australia. So there shouldn't be any excuses."

Rowe is likely to try Legal Procedure over a middle distance and preferably at Eagle Farm.

"There is a 1600 metre QTIS race coming up at Doomben but there is also a 2200 metre race for him in a couple of weeks. It is as good a time as any to try him at a middle distance," Rowe said.
