Derby winner Nyquist to run in Haskell

Wednesday 13 July 2016, 8:34am

Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist will make his return in the Group One Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park.

Last year's two-year-old United States champion, Nyquist suffered his first defeat at his ninth start when third in the Preakness Stakes.

He missed the Belmont Stakes because of an elevated white cell count but trainer Doug O'Neill said he was fit and well and ready to race on July 31.

"We're pumped up and can't wait to get to New Jersey," O'Neill said.

The Haskell drew a record crowd of more than 60,000 last year when Triple Crown winner American Pharoah won the race.
