Alisha Taylor gets stakes chance at Coast

Friday 1 July 2016, 4:00pm

Father and son training partners Peter and Will Hulbert have given jockey Alisha Taylor a vote of confidence by retaining her to ride Mischievous Devil in a stakes race at the Sunshine Coast.

Mischievous Devil returns to the scene of his best run when he tackles Saturday's Listed Glasshouse Hcp (1400m).

The four-year-old showed he had the class to contest stakes races when third in the Listed Sunshine Coast Cup over the same distance in January.

He was third in a three-way photo in a controversial race in which Timeless Prince was awarded first over Pillar of Creation on a stewards' protest.

Timeless Prince and Pillar of Creation will again be among the gelding's rivals.

"The stewards protest probably overshadowed the runs of a couple of horses including Mischievous Devil," Peter Hulbert said.

"It was a very good effort from my bloke because he rolled back to the worse part of the track."

Taylor mainly rides on the provincial and country circuit but is noted for her hard work and has a close association with Mischievous Devil.

"Alisha has ridden Mischievous Devil in most of his trackwork since he was a young horse. He likes her and seems to go well for her. I am more than happy to put her on," Hulbert said.

Taylor rode Mischievous Devil to his most recent win at the Gold Coast three runs back and also was on him for his fourth in the Rockhampton Newmarket last week.

"Mischievous Devil came from last and gave them about 10 to 12 lengths from the top of the straight. Alisha said the track was probably a bit hard for him and it will be softer at the Sunshine Coast," Hulbert said.
