Online Auction Success Adds To Written Tycoon's Record Breaking Year

Thursday 30 June 2016, 8:50am

The past year has seen Written Tycoon (Iglesia ex Party Miss) record his best season yet siring three individual Group 1 winners in Capitalist, Luna Rossa and Music Magnate. He also set a new record for his yearling progeny when a colt ex Zals made $305,000 at Sydney Classic. As a hot young stallion, demand from breeders is at unprecedented levels.

Inglis Digital partnered with Woodside Park Stud in May to give breeders a unique opportunity to secure a nomination in Written Tycoon for the 2016 breeding season. The final five nominations to the fully booked stallion were auctioned online via the Everyday Auctions platform over a period of five weeks.

Following his early popularity, the market further cemented their interest in the Stallion when bidding over the advertised service fee of $49,500 via Bloodstock.com.au’s new online auction platform Everyday Auctions.

The first nomination was secured by Queensland based Bloodstock Agent Neil Jenkinson for $56,500 on behalf of Glenlogan Park who will stand the Group 1 performed son of Written Tycoon, Rich Enuff, this year.

“We have been a big supporter and fan of Written Tycoon for a some time, which is why we had to buy into Rich Enuff and why we had to secure a nomination for this year” said Glenlogan Park’s General Manager Steve Morley.

After strong competition from a variety of bidders during the late stages of the online auction, the second nomination was secured for $60,000 by Nicole Agent for the up-and-coming Victorian-based breeding and racing operation Three Fillies Lodge.

“We recently purchased a lovely young mare off the track and wanted to give her the best possible chance to succeed as a broodmare as well, so we are delighted we are now able to send her to one of the best proven stallions in Australia” stated Agent.

The third nomination was purchased for $60,500 by Balance Thoroughbreds, a boutique breeder from NSW.  “Michael Hadley was the underbidder on the previous two nominations, so we are very thankful and excited to be doing business with him” commented Woodside Park Stud’s Matt Tillett.

The fourth nomination was obtained by Angela Haynes who is a breeder from NSW for $59,500. Tillet said “Angela is thrilled to be breeding another Written Tycoon this year as she has a very valuable Group placed Written Tycoon filly who is currently in foal to New Zealand’s leading sire Tavistock”.

Highlighting the flexibility and diversity of buyers Everday Auctions can provide, the fifth and final nomination was purchased very well by Iranian-based agent Hamid Nikoumanesh for $53,500. “Hamid had contacted me a number of times from Iran about Written Tycoon just after we had to close his book. The Everyday Auction platform worked perfectly as it provided Hamid a means of securing him the nomination he wanted” said Tillett.

“The best thing that we achieved from the exercise however was the exposure to a new range of clients, as only one of the five successful bidders was a previous client of ours. We are delighted that the five online nominations averaged $58,000 because it proves to us that the market truly values our stallion as highly as we do” remarked Tillett.

“We would like to thank and congratulate Nick Melmeth from Bloodstock.com for his great work on this ambitious project of ours, we couldn’t be happier with how it played out” said Tillett.

The Everyday Auctions platform is the newest addition to the online services offered by Inglis Digital and to have the support of leading Victorian farm Woodside Park to show the potential of the product was terrific.

“They entrusted us with a very important task and we are extremely happy that we could achieve such an outstanding result for them. It also shows that the thoroughbred community is willing to embrace new concepts that complement the traditional sale formats” said Inglis Digital’s business manager Nick Melmeth.
