Blake Shinn appeals one-month ban

Wednesday 29 June 2016, 2:58pm

Blake Shinn has lodged his appeal against a one-month suspension for his handling of Thud in a race at Rosehill.

He will be back aboard the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained mare on Saturday when she returns to the track in a 1200m-benchmark 84 race.

On Tuesday, Racing NSW stewards found against Shinn, saying he had not taken options in various parts of the race which would have given the mare the best chance to win or obtain the best possible placing when she finished fourth on June 18.

Senior trainer Peter Snowden threw his support behind the jockey to no avail.

"It's just bad luck on the day," Snowden said.

"She is a horse with a short sharp sprint."

"Blake is out there making a split-second decision. Blake sees it as he sees it."

Shinn's one-month suspension is scheduled to begin after he completes a careless riding penalty from last Saturday's Eagle Farm meeting.

He was outed for causing interference in the Group One Tattersall's Tiara in which he finished seventh on Precious Gem.

That ban begins after Saturday and ends on July 14 with no date set for Shinn's appeal against the second suspension.
