Williams can edge closer in title race

Thursday 23 June 2016, 6:53am

Craig Williams gets the chance to hit back in the Melbourne jockeys' premiership with a good book of rides at Flemington.

Premiership leader Dwayne Dunn is five wins ahead of second-placed Williams with just over a month of the season remaining, but Dunn will miss Saturday's meeting through suspension.

Dunn has never won a Melbourne premiership while Williams is chasing his fifth title and first since he shared the 2008/09 premiership with Damien Oliver.

Williams has a full book of nine rides at Flemington including Spieth and Award Of Merit who are early favourites for their respective races.

There are 11 metropolitan meetings left in Victoria this season.
