Tiara decision pending for Tsaritsa

Sunday 19 June 2016, 2:34pm

The country's leading Group One trainer has one more chance to add to his season tally in the Tattersall's Tiara.

But trainer Chris Waller will look at Monday's nominations before committing three-year-old Tsaritsa to a start in the final Group One event of the season at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

The 1400m-race at weight-for-age is restricted to fillies and mares with Azkadellia the likely favourite to bounce back from her Stradbroke Handicap failure.

Waller has trained the winners of 15 Group One races this season but has missed out at the top level at the Brisbane winter carnival.

Tsaritsa put herself in line for the Tatt's Tiara with her strong win in the Group Two Queensland Guineas (1600m).

"She galloped on Saturday and has shown she has come through her last race really well," Waller said.

"But we won't make a decision until Monday when we have a look at what else is in the nominations.

"Telepathic is more likely to go to an 1800 metre race on the day."

Tsaritsa has won all three starts this campaign and four of her past five, missing out by a short half head in the other.

Her first win came in January when she beat stablemate Sebring Sally who ran a creditable fourth in the Queensland Oaks won by Provocative.

Waller won the Tiara with Red Tracer in 2013 while Azkadellia's Melbourne trainer Ciaron Maher aiming for successive wins having been successful with Srikandi a year ago.

Sold For Song, third behind Tsaritsa in the Queensland Guineas, is also set to line up in the Tiara.

Trainer Kevin Kemp said she had come through the race in good order and he was looking at the Group One race as well as the Listed Daybreak Lover (1400m) against her own age.

"She's a big chance to head to the Group One," he said.

The Daybreak Lover was salvaged from the wash-out at Eagle Farm on June 4.
