Brinkley Bliss gets Aldridge to travel

Friday 17 June 2016, 1:06pm

South Australian trainer David Aldridge makes a rare trip across the border to run Brinkley Bliss at Moonee Valley.

The last time the Murray Bridge trainer had a runner in Victoria was with a half-brother to Brinkley Bliss, Brinkley Boy. who ran second at Moonee Valley in December 2008.

"We used to come over for some of the non-TAB meetings years ago," Aldridge said.

"But you've got all the big trainers going to these places now so it's not as easy as it once was."

A last-start winner on the Morphettville Parks circuit, Brinkley Bliss lines up in the Zouki Handicap over 1600m on Saturday.

Aldridge said a lack of mares races in Adelaide forced him to look to Melbourne.

Giving Aldridge the confidence to travel is that the mare is finally free of niggling feet problems.

"If you go back three starts before she won we were having trouble with her feet but we got them right last start," Aldridge said.

"We've been trying to get her up to a mile throughout the prep and I think the Valley should suit her too."

Aldridge said the only minor worry was how Brinkley Bliss would handled the trip to Melbourne on her first overnight trip away from home.

"I'm expecting her to go a good race as long as she travels over all right," Aldridge said.

"It's not so much the trip, it's the settling in overnight which may be the only concern.

"She hasn't been away overnight before but she's older now, so she should be right."

Brinkley Bliss has been specked in early betting firming from $15 to $10 with Lahqa an easing $3.40 favourite.
