Wine Tales ready for delayed return

Getting the right conditions for Wine Tales has been a frustration for trainer Chris Waller who is hoping predicted rain holds off until after the Rosehill meeting.

Early in her career, the now four-year-old was mixing it in races with stablemates Delectation, Good Project and Amicus who all went on to win Group One races.

Wine Tales, who has won just two races but has another nine placings from her 19 starts, has been scratched for the past two Saturdays because of wet tracks.

She is entered again this week for the 1200m-race for fillies and mares with the track rated a soft 6 on Wednesday.

"We've been waiting for better tracks for her," Waller said.

"She is coming back from a throat operation and having bone chips removed but she is working well and pleasing us.

"If we had been able to get her up earlier she would have been a horse for the Tatt's Tiara on Saturday week.

"Saturday might be a bit short for her and I'm hoping the rain stays away."

Fellow Rosehill trainer Gerald Ryan scratched Don't Doubt Marley from Canterbury on Monday in favour of the same race at Wine Tales.

While Waller wants a dry track for Wines Tales that's not the case for stablemate So Willie who claimed his second career win on the heaviest track possible last Saturday week.

He runs over 1350m on Saturday with apprentice Koby Jennings again booked to ride.

Waller's apprentice Rory Hutchings is now riding as a senior jockey and finished his indentures on Monday with a healthy lead over Jennings in the race for the junior title in Sydney.

"I'm not sure I want Koby to win too many races and beat Rory," Waller said.

"So Willie did a good job last time so hopefully he can do it again."

Jennings has been booked for seven rides on the program including Wonderbolt for his former bosses Barbara Joseph and Paul Jones.
