Guineas distance test for Sold For Song

Friday 10 June 2016, 4:14pm

Talented filly Sold For Song will have to prove she is a genuine 1600m-horse the hard way after missing a lead-up run and drawing the outside barrier in the Group Two Queensland Guineas.

Trainer Kevin Kemp admits he is no wiser about whether Sold For Song is a sprinter with a big finish or a horse looking for longer.

Sold For Song has produced several withering final bursts in her races over 1200 and 1350m.

"You never know until you try them. Some horses storm home in their races over 1200 metres but then can't get 1400 or 1600,"Kemp said.

"I was hoping we would find out when she accepted to run in the Daybreak Lover Stakes over 1400 last Saturday but it was washed out."

"She drew inside last week in the washed out race and we planned to ride her more forward. Now we will have to go back to Plan B and go back in the field.

"So we are still a bit in the dark. But I do know one thing - she is a class filly."

Leading Brisbane apprentice James Orman will ride Sold For Song in Saturday's Guineas.

The Chris Waller-trained Tsaritsa is the $3 favourite for her first experience of stakes racing in the Guineas.

The filly has three wins and two seconds from six starts.

"I could easily make the case she should be unbeaten this preparation," Waller said.

"She goes to the mile for the first time and has to go to a new level but she is a versatile filly and her wide barrier won't be a problem."
