Change could suit Miss Cover Girl

The washed out Queensland Oaks meeting could prove a boon for Miss Cover Girl who has had a change of campaign.

Trainer Kelly Schweida had been resigned to running Miss Cover Girl last week with a big weight and from a bad barrier in the Listed Juanmo Stakes.

"The plan was for her to then tackle the Gai Waterhouse Stakes at Ipswich in two weeks and then press on to the Tatt's Tiara a week later," Schweida said.

"However, with the wash out I decided to have a look at the Group Two QTC Cup when they called for fresh nominations for that race."

Miss Cover Girl got into Saturday's QTC Cup at Eagle Farm on the minimum weight of 53kg and will start from barrier five.

"It is certainly better than the weight and draw from last week. Miss Cover Girl has always shown she is up to stakes class and I am sure she is up to this race," Schweida said.

"The mission has always been to get black type for Miss Cover Girl and a Group Two win would be even better.

"I have booked Jim Byrne to ride her and he should be able to be much handier than she has been from wide barriers in some recent races."

Schweida wasn't as happy with barrier 11 for Oink in the Group One JJ Atkins Stakes.

"I suppose it isn't the worst barrier from the 1600 metre start but Oink is six months away from being a top class horse," he said.

"It means he will need all the luck he can get in the Atkins."
