Vic cobalt samples to be re-analysed

Tuesday 7 June 2016, 9:41am

MELBOURNE, June 7 AAP - Victoria's chief steward says he is comfortable with the testing procedures relating to cobalt found in horses trained by Danny O'Brien, Mark Kavanagh and Lee and Shannon Hope.

The samples will be re-analysed after questions over the accreditation of the laboratories which tested the samples.

"We just felt if there was any doubt we'll remove that doubt by retesting the samples," Terry Bailey told Melbourne radio RSN.

"We are comfortable we don't even have to do it but if it's going to assist the hearing, why not?

Bailey hosed down suggestions made by a legal advocate for the Hopes that Racing Victoria had sought to knowingly cover up information about the status of the laboratories.

"It's simply not true and we'll deal with that on the 1st of August."

The trainers are all appealing disqualifications relating to the findings of cobalt in their horses and will front Victoria's Civil and Administration Tribunal on August 1.
