Charlie Boy, Dothraki lead Snowden charge

Wednesday 11 May 2016, 1:14pm

The winter carnival performances of veterans Charlie Boy and Dothraki could have a strong influence on whether the Snowden training team opens a Queensland stable.

Peter and Paul Snowden have swept all before them since they formed a training partnership two years ago.

They originally planned a five-year program with 40 horses but have been so successful they now have 270 horses on their books and stables for 120 at Randwick.

This season the Snowden stable has won 101 races and earned almost $9 million in prize money, thanks largely to Capitalist landing the Magic Millions 2YO Classic-Golden Slipper double.

The stable has had consistent runners in Brisbane this season and could have as many as a dozen runners during the winter carnival.

Paul Snowden said Brisbane provided an alternative for the stable because of its weather and slightly weaker company.

"Our horses get fairly weighted in Brisbane and provided they draw a decent barrier they are usually very competitive," Snowden said.

"We have discussed opening stable in Brisbane if we get too big. A lot could depend on how our horses go in the winter."

The Snowdens have a strong hand at Doomben on Saturday with Charlie Boy and Dothraki, both owned by Triple Crown Syndication, leading the way in the Group One BTC Cup.

They combined with Triple Crown last year to win the race with Hot Snitzel.

The Snowden pair have drawn well on Saturday with Dothraki having the inside barrier and Charlie Boy getting stall six.
