Peace Force to go one better in Dark Jewel

Sunday 8 May 2016, 5:20pm

Peace Force's next two starts for Gerald Ryan are likely to be her last and her trainer plans to send her to stud a winner.

The mare runs in Saturday's Dark Jewel Classic at Scone before her defence of the Glenlogan Park Stud Stakes in Brisbane after which she goes to auction at the National Broodmare Sale at the Gold Coast.

Peace Force finished a close second to her recently retired stablemate Solicit in the 2015 Dark Jewel and Ryan said she was primed to go one better this time around.

"She's terrific and has improved off her run the other day," Ryan said.

"I'm hoping she can go out on a high. She's a real trier."

Ryan inherited Peace Force from John O'Shea when the latter became private trainer for Godolphin in 2014 and the mare has scored five wins and run multiple placings since the switch.

Christian Reith will ride Peace Force on Saturday after the pair finished fourth in the Godolphin Crown at Hawkesbury on April 30.

The Scone meeting is a stepping stone to stakes races in Brisbane during the winter but one Ryan-trained horse not going is Shoreham who bled during Saturday's Lord Mayors Cup.

He was one of four horses to suffer bleeding attacks at the Rosehill meeting.

"Jay Ford said he was gone before the 400 metres," Ryan said.

"He had never shown any signs of it before."

The Chris Waller-trained Start Wondering and Disclaimer from the Peter and Paul Snowden stable were also banned for three months while the Lee Curtis-trained Turbulent Jet is barred for life after bleeding for the second time.
