Xtravagant spells, concentrates on spring

Tuesday 3 May 2016, 1:57pm

A Queensland winter carnival mission for star New Zealand colt Xtravagant has been ruled out, with the three-year-old heading for a spell.

Xtravagant, who was unplaced in his Australian debut in the Australian Guineas at Flemington in March, returned to winning ways in the Group Three Breeders Stakes in New Zealand on Saturday.

It was the colt's sixth win from 10 starts, a record that includes two Group One victories.

"We have decided to give Xtravagant a spell now to ensure that he is at his very best for Melbourne in the spring," Te Akau Racing confirmed on its website.
