Weather to shape Charmed Harmony's plans

Tuesday 26 April 2016, 4:51pm

John Sadler hopes predicted showers arrive in time to allow Charmed Harmony to run at Caulfield.

Charmed Harmony is the topweight over his preferred 1400m journey on Saturday, but will only take his place if the track has some give in it.

Failing that, Sadler will take the gelding to run in the feature sprint race at the Warrnambool carnival, the Wangoom Handicap on Wednesday week.

The weather bureau is predicting an 80 per cent chance of rain in Melbourne on Friday with a 60 per cent chance on Saturday with temperatures in the low 20s.

Conversely, the Warrnambool three-day carnival is invariably run on affected ground in cool temperatures.

"My preference is to go to Caulfield, but if we don't get any rain I'll scratch him and run him in the Wangoom," Sadler said.

Charmed Harmony was withdrawn from a Listed race over Saturday's course and distance on April 14 when Sadler felt the track was too firm.

With Sadler's apprentice son Tom on the sidelines through suspension, in-form apprentice Dylan Dunn will take the ride.

Dunn was successful on the gelding over Saturday's course and distance last August, the last of four successive wins through the winter.

Sadler will saddle Japhils and Coram at Caulfield while Bengal Cat will remain at home.

Japhils lines up in an 1100m mares handicap and Sadler said she was in the final stages of her career before retirement to stud.

The mare collected a stakes win during last year's Adelaide carnival, but will do her remaining racing in Melbourne.

"She's a stakes winner so we're just happy to try and win a race or two with her before she goes to stud," Sadler said.

Bengal Cat is entered for two races at Caulfield on Saturday but Sadler said he would stick to original plans and run her on Saturday week in the Group One Australasian Oaks at Morphettville.
