Walker hopeful of return next month

Friday 22 April 2016, 8:23am

Jockey Michael Walker is hoping he can return to the saddle within the next month but will know more after he sees another specialist.

Walker visited a neurosurgeon on Wednesday and received a positive report in relation to bleeding on the brain he suffered when he hit his head in an accident at home.

He said he needed to visit another surgeon next week about nerve damage and would have a better idea after that when he could return to trackwork and riding.

"I saw the neurosurgeon on Tuesday and he's happy with the brain and the way everything is going inside the skull," Walker said.

"But next Wednesday I see the ENT surgeon and I'll know more then."

He says he's hoping it might only be three weeks before he's back riding but that will be determined by the medical professionals.

"My right side of my face is still a bit numb from nerve damage," he said.

"But I'm feeling good and I'm looking forward to getting back riding."

Walker had to relinquish rides at The Championships in Sydney including Criterion in his final start when unplaced in the $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Walker only returned to race riding in early March after spending four months on the sidelines recovering from hip surgery.
