Stackhouse back to ride in G1 in Sydney

Tuesday 5 April 2016, 3:12pm

Less than two weeks after fracturing ribs and being admitted to a cardiac ward of a Melbourne hospital, Daniel Stackhouse will ride in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes.

Stackhouse was injured in a race fall at Stawell on March 27 when he was catapulted to the turf before a horse trod on his chest.

"There was a bit of blood around my heart and bruising around the heart," Stackhouse said.

"I was in the cardiac ward because they were just a bit worried I had an irregular heartbeat ... my heartbeat was getting really low down to 35."

A week after he was discharged from hospital, Stackhouse resumed trackwork on Tuesday morning and rode four horses for trainer Brett Scott.

Stackhouse was keen to get back to continue his association with Scott-trained mare Coronation Shallan who he will ride in Saturday's Group One Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

"I feel very lucky to walk away with the things I do have," Stackhouse said.

"I think the (safety) vest has played a big role."

Stackhouse has a good association with the Scott stable and has ridden Coronation Shallan in 21 of her 29 starts including six of her past seven.

"I've done pretty much all the work on her and I missed out on riding her when she ran in the Emirates Stakes last spring because she had a light weight," he said.

"So I don't really want to miss out again."

Coronation Shallan, a Group Three winner of 1600m at Moonee Valley last spring, finished seventh in the Emirates Stakes in her only Group One appearance.
