Husson Eagle returning after winning the Magic Millions Sprint- Reuniting with Michelle at Oakbank on Saturday!!!

Maree and I would like to wish you all an enjoyable Easter break.  It certainly has been a whirlwind start to the year for everyone associated with Prime Thoroughbreds.  It was a relief for me to be able to unpack my suitcase after the hectic round of yearling sales that started in January.

Since then I have attended the Magic Millions Adelaide, Tasmanian and Perth Magic Millions Sales as well as the Inglis Classic and Premier Sales.  A total of 3275 yearlings were catalogued in these sales with Prime Thoroughbreds purchasing nine.

Nine may not seem a lot of yearlings but an enormous amount of work that goes into selecting these youngsters.  Compare our results from these sales with the 2013 results(now 4 year olds) where 3124 yearlings were catalogued for 1592 individual winners (50.9% winners) with 82 stakes winners (2.6% stakes winners) already coming out of those six sales.

In 2013 we also purchased nine yearlings from these sales with all nine racing and all nine winning (100%) with two stakes winners (22%).  (Two yearlings we purchased from these sales died before we could do anything with them which was disappointing and not included in the statistics).

These purchases included Husson Eagle who is currently the 8th highest stakes earner from these six sales.  He is the top earner in 2013 from the Adelaide Magic Millions Sale.

Other notable achievers are the Group 3 and Stakes winner Savoureux, the 3rd best performed from the Inglis Classic Sale, Stakes winner Hijack Hussy, the Tasmanian Magic Millions winner Rumeron as well as the Metropolitan winners Raido, Bella Venus, Annaman and Invincible Me.  The only horse not to be a metropolitan winner was Sitkamose.

Another important statistic is all nine except Sitkamose are still racing, although Rumeron has been moved on from the Prime team. These outstanding results are due to us purchasing nice well conformed horses with acceptable x-rays and then placing them with very good trainers.

These horses have had a combined total of 123 races for 32 wins for a strike rate of 26% in the Prime Thoroughbreds Colours.  The stakes money earned by these nine horses currently stands at $1,826,316.  The combined purchase price of the nine was $495,500 for an average of just $55,000.  The most expensive was Sitkamose at $95,000 and the least Bella Venus at $35,000. The current value of the seven still in the Prime colours is well above $1 million with the stakes mares Savoureux and Hijack Hussy being very valuable broodmare propositions.

The stakes earned by these horses could well top $2,000,000 in the coming weeks with Husson Eagle, Hijack Hussy, Makeadane and Invincible Me currently in racing preparations and Raido not far off running again.

The two yearlings I purchased after these sales in 2013 were Makeadane (Magic Millions National for $38,000) and Stimuli (Inglis Easter Two for $40,000) which are both Sydney Metropolitan winners.  The other two to round out the 13 in this team were Arrayanes and Hazy Blur which were purchased as weanlings.

These figures follow on from our team of five year olds where all 15 raced with 14 individual winners coming out of that crop.  Our three year olds are starting to hit there straps with a steady flow of winners coming through and our two year old team is developing nicely.  We don’t push our young horses and hope to have them still racing as four and five year olds which is important to our owners.  Obviously from time to time you get a horse that puts its hand up and is ready to go at two and you would be silly not to take advantage of this opportunity when it comes along.  Atalanta Miss was such a two year old.

With our major buying sales now complete I will be in touch to discuss the yearlings we have on offer.  I find it very difficult to have the time to sell our yearling purchases during the sales series and now can sit back and get the job done. They are a great bunch of horses by good sires from very good farms.  I’ve written many times that it is more important where a foal was reared than who its parents are.  The lack of pressure on our clients gives them a chance to have a look at what we are offering.

I look forward to the Easter break and have an enjoyable and safe weekend.  Good luck to our owners with runners.

ON THE TRACK

We have some nice chances in the next week headed up by Husson Eagle in the Listed Oakbank Stakes, Makeadane at Doomben and Invincible Me at Stawell.

Savoureux has gone for a break.  She did a great job but lacked the great finish at Rosehill on Saturday she possesses when at her top.  Hijack Hussy did a remarkable job to finish as close as she did in the Bendigo Bracelet on Saturday in a slowly run race.  Her finishing sectionals would have been extraordinary.  She is in great form and is being targeted at the Group 2 Queen of the South Stakes at Morphettville on 7 May.  She is really going well.

SEBRING
There is no hotter sire in Australia at present than Sebring.  His results for the season see him sitting in 6th position on the General Sires List.  He has had a stellar run in March.

Sebring stood at $66,000 service fee last season but while this may have looked expensive his results have confirmed this as good value. The filly I am offering is outstanding not only as a type but also ‘great value for money’.

HINCHINBROOK AND I AM INVINCIBLE

Yarraman Park’s two outstanding young sires continue to dominate the 2nd and 3rd season sire’s lists with Hinchinbrook with $2,743,963 being a mile ahead of Beneteau in 2nd place with $1,421,853.

Hinchinbrook further consolidated his position on Saturday with his daughter Whispering Brook winning the Group 3 WATC Gimcrack Stakes.  He is also a clear winner with six stakes wins for the season over Beneteau again, with four.

I Am Invincible is in a similar position with earnings of $3,086,169 compared with the 2nd placed Medaglia d'Oro on $2,500,646.  He too had a Group winner on Saturday, this time with The Justice League winning the Group 2 Wellington Guineas.  Interestingly when you combine the Australian and NZ results he still has a clear lead over Tavistock in 2nd placwe represented by Tarzino which has earned over half of Tavistock’s earnings.

Once again I have nice yearlings on offer by both these outstanding horses.  My only disappointment is that I didn’t purchase more as the yearlings by both these horses have become almost impossible to purchase.

A very happy group of More Than A Rose owners at Sanctuary Cove TAB after the filly’s great win!!!
