Perignon ready to restart autumn campaign

Monday 14 March 2016, 3:42pm

Perignon missed her chance to run in the Coolmore Classic but trainer Gerald Ryan is still hopeful she can get to Group One level again this autumn.

The Flight Stakes placegetter made a winning return in the Light Fingers Stakes last month but was ruled out of the Surround Stakes on race morning with a temperature.

Godolphin filly Ghisoni won the Surround and finished sixth, beaten a little less than 2-1/2 lengths, in Saturday's Coolmore Classic won by Peeping.

Perignon has been entered for Saturday's Group Three Birthday Card Stakes (1200m).

"She spiked a temperature on the morning of the Light Fingers but it was back to normal by the afternoon," trainer Gerald Ryan said.

"We treated her so that ruled her out of racing for a couple of weeks.

"But she hasn't missed any work and we have options for her.

"She is entered for the Queen Of The Turf and also the Arrowfield Sprint over The Championships so we'll just play it by ear."

The Ryan-trained Solicit, a gallant third in the Coolmore after doing the hard work to lead the field until the final 200m, could go to the Queen Of The Turf with the Group Two Emancipation Stakes also an attractive option.

Three-year-old Spill The Beans is among 27 entries for Saturday's Group One Galaxy (1100m) but Ryan said he was unsure if he would take his place.

"I'll leave that up to the owners," he said.

Spill The Beans beat Le Romain and Counterattack to win the Group Three Eskimo Stakes (1200m) on February 6 before running fourth in the Hobartville (1400m) won by Press Statement.

Le Romain, second in the Hobartville, then caused an upset by beating Press Statement in the Randwick Guineas with both entered to step up to 2000 metres in Saturday's Rosehill Guineas.
