One time buckjumper Flamboyer landed a plunge and gave jockey Luke Rolls a timely winner as he embarks on the comeback trail from injury.

Rolls was sidelined for several weeks with injuries sustained in a three-horse fall at the Gold Coast in November and only recently returned to riding.

He was impressed with Flamboyer's victory but believed the gelding still had a lot to learn.

"He's still very immature at the moment and I think he'll be a better three-year-old than two-year-old," Rolls said.

"He has a tendency of getting on the wrong leg and wanting to get out but once I got him balanced up he got going again and I thought he won well."

Flamboyer was heavily backed from $6 into $4.60 before winning the Sky Racing Handicap (1200m) by 1-1/4 lengths from Aquator ($3.50) with Rusty Colours ($6) three-quarters of a length away third.

The juvenile tested the patience of trainer Kelly Doughty with his antics when he first entered her stables.

"He's been back to the horse breakers a couple of times because he would just buck and buck," she said.

"But he's started to settle down now and we always knew he had a lot of potential.

"The other good quality he has is that he's tough as nails."

Meanwhile Plumage vindicated the judgement of trainer Kevin Kemp when she handled a stamina test by winning the Coke Zero Handicap (1600m).

"I always thought the mile would suit her even though she was beaten at her first go at the trip as a two-year-old when she was just too immature to handle it," Kemp said.

"This was her fifth run back this time in and I thought stepping her up to a mile would suit her and she got there right on the line."

Plumage gave Toowoomba jockey Kenji Yoshida the second leg of a winning double after he scored in the previous race aboard Gatineau River.
