Stellar Collision chasing four on end

Friday 11 March 2016, 4:12pm

Darren Weir is not expecting a rise in grade to stop the unbeaten run of Stellar Collision at Flemington.

Undefeated in three starts, Stellar Collision lines up against Listed opposition in Saturday's Goodwood Racecourse Trophy (1100m).

He followed a debut win at Swan Hill with victory over Bon Aurum at Sandown last August.

After a longer than intended break, Stellar Collision returned with a narrow win over 1000m at Moonee Valley last month.

"Hopefully it's four from four," Weir said of his unbeaten galloper.

"He's a beauty and he's up for this sort or race."

The trainer isn't one to get too carried away in hyping up his horses and to describe Stellar Collision as a beauty it is high praise from Victoria's leading trainer.

Weir had three runners in last week's Australian Guineas, winning the race with Palentino, and did consider aiming Stellar Collision in that direction.

"We were toying with the Australian Guineas but then we thought he would benefit from a bit longer in the paddock," Weir said.

"So we gave him a good break and it's paid dividends."

Longer term Weir has interstate options for the three-year-old son of Star Witness.

"He could go to Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, whatever," Weir said.

"We'll get over Saturday first and then have a good look at it."

Stellar Collision has drifted from $5.50 to $7 for Saturday's race with last start Caulfield runner-up Brockhoff the $4 favourite.
