Glamour mare More Joyous has won a barrier trial at Randwick in preparation for the autumn carnival and a possible defence of the Doncaster Mile.

Ridden by Nash Rawiller, More Joyous had 1-3/4 lengths to spare on 2012 Australian Guineas runner-up Strike The Stars at the end of the 1000m heat run on the course proper.

More Joyous is expected to return in the Group One Canterbury Stakes (1300m) on March 23.

The multiple Group One winner hasn't raced since finishing out of the placings in the Cox Plate in October after trainer Gai Waterhouse controversially selected barrier 11 for the mare.

More Joyous went through her 2012 autumn campaign undefeated, winning the Canterbury Stakes which was then a Group Two before completing a Group One treble in the Queen Of The Turf, the Doncaster and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Comeback sprinter Hay List was a scratching from Monday's trial and will instead compete in a heat at Warwick Farm on Tuesday.

The injury-plagued Hay List won a barrier trial at Randwick last week and is scheduled to resume his career in the Group Two Challenge Stakes (1100m) on March 16.

He hasn't raced since he finished second to Foxwedge in the William Reid Stakes almost a year ago after winning the Newmarket Handicap.
