Japan's Sydney carnival hopes down to one

Monday 29 February 2016, 12:52pm

Japanese horses Isla Bonita and Logotype have been ruled out of The Championships in Sydney following disappointing performances in the Nakayama Kinen.

Their defection leaves Tosen Stardom as the lone Japanese hope from four original entries.

Tosen Reve was withdrawn after he was unplaced in the Kyoto Kinen two weeks ago.

Tosen Stardom will be making his second visit to Sydney where he finished second to Contributer in the 2015 Ranvet Stakes and fifth in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes won by Criterion.

Star mare Winx is now the $2 favourite for the Queen Elizabeth Stakes ahead of Criterion at $7.
