Holt suspended for a month over fall

Thursday 31 January 2013, 2:52pm

Apprentice Aidan Holt was suspended for a month after Racing Queensland stewards concluded an inquiry into a Gold Coast fall which left three jockeys in hospital.

After taking initial evidence, stewards reconvened the inquiry at the Gold Coast on Tuesday to allow fallen riders Luke Rolls, Dean Tanti and Daniel Griffin to be present.

Holt, who pleaded not guilty, was charged with careless riding over the November incident.

Stewards alleged Holt allowed Dana Prince to shift in near the 600 metres in the Maiden Plate, causing Rolls' mount As We Go to clip his heels and fall.

Elkalato ridden by Griffin, and Romeo Lad with Tanti aboard were unable to avoid As We Go and fell, while several other runners had to be checked.

Holt was also issued with a seven-meeting suspension on a separate charge for allowing Dana Prince to shift in when insufficiently clear of Baltoro who was checked approaching the 600 metres.

Holt's suspension begins after the Sunshine Coast meeting on Sunday.

He can resume riding on March 4 with the suspensions to be served concurrently.
