French Emotion impresses Rawiller again

Wednesday 10 February 2016, 6:15pm

Brad Rawiller made the effort to stick with the Chris Waller-trained French Emotion at Sandown.

And it was easy to see why.

French Emotion sprinted to another convincing midweek win in Wednesday's Premier Signs Handicap, her second-straight victory this campaign at Sandown.

Rawiller was a late call-up for the ride on the mare first-up on January 13.

He thought he would miss the chance to ride her again when interstate commitments ruled him out of the mare's planned start at Moonee Valley last Friday.

But she failed to make the field as an emergency and instead lined up as the $2.50 favourite in Wednesday's benchmark-70 over 1300m.

"I did everything I could to stay on her and then I had to go to Tassie for the Derby and I was shattered that I couldn't ride her last Friday night," Rawiller said.

"As it turned out she didn't get a run which meant I could be on her today riding at 56 kilos which I haven't done since the spring.

"But I was never not going to ride her."

Rawiller will again ride 56kg on Saturday aboard Burning Front in the Carylon Stakes and says that is his minimum at the moment.

"Hopefully that can come down again in the next month," he said.

"But riding 56 on a Wednesday was because I wasn't wanting to get off her."

French Emotion was placed in her first five starts in maidens in NSW on rain-affected ground.

"I think she used to be quite a weak filly and Chris is really impressed with how she's strengthened up this time," stable representative Justine Hales said.
