Jumps session sparks Golden Mane into form

Saturday 6 February 2016, 2:24pm

A schooling session over hurdles has sparked a return to winning form for Golden Mane at Caulfield.

After winning second-up at Moonee Valley in November, Golden Mane lost form and the Lindsay Park operation resorted to a jumping session to improve the gelding.

It had the desired result as Golden Mane rounded up his opposition to take out the Ian Miller Handicap (2000m) on Saturday.

Ridden by Damian Lane, Golden Mane was backed from $7 into $4.80 before scoring a half-length win over dead-heaters Mr Journeyman ($6.50) and Schockemohle ($6.50).

Co-trainer Tom Dabernig said Golden Mane had hadn't produced his best since his Moonee Valley win.

"We backed off his workload, kept him a little bit fresh coming into this and schooled him over a few hurdles which often brightens them up," he said.

Dabernig said Golden Mane would make a good jumper but a potential career over hurdles will be put on hold while the son of More Than Ready continues to show good form on the flat.

He said the stable always had a jumper or two and will rely on Honey Steel's Gold and Surging Wave for the upcoming jumps season.

The Mornington Cup Prelude at Caulfield on February 27 is likely to be the Golden Mane's next start.
