Stablemates chase two-state Inglis success

Thursday 4 February 2016, 5:02pm

Sam Pritchard-Gordon has a top chance in the Inglis Classic in Sydney and the trainer is hoping for an encouraging debut from Watch My Shadow in another sales-restricted race in Melbourne.

Pritchard-Gordon will start stakes-placed filly Soviet Secret in Saturday's $250,000 race at Randwick, while at Caulfield he will give Watch My Shadow his chance in the Inglis Premier.

He said Watch My Shadow was a lovely colt but the youngster may not be sharp enough for 1200m.

"He's probably going to get back and run on, that's the way we've taught him to race," Pritchard-Gordon said.

"He looks like a horse who's going to love 1400 metres and maybe even a mile as a two-year-old.

"But conversely he's a lovely animal that has done everything right and he deserves his chance at the race."

Watch My Shadow is one of the outsiders for the race restricted to Inglis Premier sale graduates.

Pritchard-Gordon said the timing was right for the son of Dane Shadow's debut and a $250,000 sales-restricted race was hard to ignore.

"I think he's up to this standard, and if they go hard enough he might well run into it," he said.

Pritchard-Gordon said the VRC Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) next month was an option if the colt can live up to expectations.

Soviet Secret shares the third line of betting for the Inglis Classic.
