English returns with Randwick trial win

Friday 29 January 2016, 6:35am

Golden Slipper runner-up English has upstaged some more experienced Group One performers with a dominant barrier trial win at Randwick.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained filly put more than three lengths on First Seal with Thousand Guineas winner Stay With Me third.

Cox Plate winner Winx jumped well and was steadied by Hugh Bowman to tuck in behind the leaders and finished sixth just in front of her stablemates Amicus and Boban.

English missed the spring with Waterhouse preferring to give her time to mature while the John Thompson-trained First Seal was also absent with a hoof problem.

The Waterhouse-trained Harlem River was a narrow winner over Peeping from the Ron Quinton stable in the second of four trials on Friday for Group and Listed horses.

Peter and Paul Snowden's new stable recruit Rich Enuff won his heat in impressive style.

Formerly trained in Victoria by Ken Keys, Rich Enuff was runner-up to the Snowden-trained Shooting To Win in the 2014 Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

The four-year-old will be given a sprinting campaign before his likely retirement to Woodside Park Stud in the spring.

The Gerald Ryan-trained Spill The Beans won the last of the Group and Listed trials by 1-1/2 lengths from Godolphin filly Pearls and First Seal's stablemate, VRC Oaks runner-up Honesta.
