Legal Procedure test after extended stay

Thursday 28 January 2016, 12:55pm

Boom Rockhampton galloper Legal Procedure missed a start because of a washout this week but now gets a chance to take on some of the Queensland's best three-year-olds.

Legal Procedure has won his past two starts in Rockhampton in impressive fashion and was favourite to win at Caloundra on Tuesday before the meeting was abandoned.

Trainer Lyle Rowe elected to leave Legal Procedure in Brisbane to contest the BRC Membership Handicap at Doomben on Saturday.

The race is a highlight of the Doomben meeting and features Too Good To Refuse, Shotacross The Bow, Most Important and Privlaka.

Rowe said the race should give him an idea of where Legal Procedure stood in terms of the better horses in Queensland.

"I think he would have won on Tuesday so the wash-out was a blow. But at least we can now line him up against the better horses," Rowe said.

"He is a big-striding horse and he could even get over further than 1600 metres.

"There is a 1600-metre race at Doomben on Saturday fortnight and he will probably stay on for that."

A former Brisbane jockey whose biggest win was the 1967 Stradbroke Handicap on Mr Hush, Rowe returned to central Queensland to train in the 1980s.
