Burning Front strikes more Gold for Weir

Saturday 23 January 2016, 5:00pm

Burning Front has added yet another win in an extended campaign that is showing no signs of coming to a close.

The Darren Weir-trained gelding's success in Saturday's lucrative VOBIS Gold Star (1514m) at Moonee Valley brought up the five-year-old's seventh victory of his preparation which has so far spanned 19 starts.

Burning Front has only missed a place once in that time for the Weir stable and the premier Victorian trainer credits the beach environment of his Warrnambool base as a key to the gelding racing so well.

"He just enjoys life down there," Weir said.

"We just keep him ticking over. Once we got him fit we don't do a lot with him.

"We just give his wind a clean out four or five days before (a race) but other than that he just pokes around at the beach and the sand dunes.

"He's loving life and racing well."

Burning Front, sent out the $2.05 favourite in the $150,000 race, dictated terms in front in the small field of six and was never looked in danger as raced to a 2-3/4 length win over Khutulun with another half length to Del Prado.

Weir pinpointed the Group Three TS Carlyon Cup (1600m) at Caulfield in three weeks as a likely next target for Burning Front.
