Mandryka aims up for four wins in a row

Friday 22 January 2016, 3:51pm

Three successive wins victories with a combined winning margin of 11 lengths isn't enough to convince trainer Steve Tregea that Mandryka is the real deal.

But he will be happy to change his mind if the four-year-old can extend his winning streak at his stiffest test so far in the Sky Thoroughbred Central Handicap at Doomben on Saturday.

"Let's face it, he hasn't been beating much. If you are going to get over-excited about beating some of those horses you are in for a disappointment," Tregea said.

"But for saying that he is out to his right staying distances and he has been doing it well at the end of his races.

"I suppose we will know more after Saturday. He will go for a spell no matter what and then we might think about the winter."

Mandryka is by Commands out of Helissio mare Helena's Opera, a half-sister to Fine Society, winner of the 2003 Canterbury Guineas.

"Helena's Opera is also a half-sister to Silver Point who we sold to South Africa and he was their top three-year-old in his year," Tregea said.

"So the staying lines are there for Mandryka."
