Nudgee appeals to Lees for Onemorezeta

Newcastle mare Onemorezeta is primed to return to winning form for the first time in more than a year when she races at Doomben.

Onemorezeta has not won since taking out the Group Three Gucci Stakes at Flemington in November 2014 but trainer Kris Lees believes she is well placed in Saturday's Listed Nudgee Quality (1200m).

The mare has also been accepted for a benchmark race in Sydney on Saturday.

Passed in at the yearling sales when she failed to reach her reserve, Onemorezeta has won more than $200,000 from her 11 starts.

She was originally destined for the country and provincial circuit and started at double figure odds when she broke her maiden at Muswellbrook as a three-year-old.

But after winning at Warwick Farm at her next start, she was stepped up to stakes company and has raced against quality horses ever since.

"Onemorezeta has been consistent, but in saying that she hasn't won in over a year," Lees said.

"Like everyone else we are obviously trying to get black type for our mares.

"The Brisbane race looks ideal for her and she has drawn nicely in barrier five with a top jockey in Michael Cahill.

"The only reason at this stage she won't start is if it happened to be a wet track."

Lees has a great strike rate in Brisbane and in particular in fillies and mares races.

In recent years he has won two of the fillies and mares Brisbane summer series races with Savoureux, who took out the 2014 Listed Mode Plate, and Brook Road in the 2014 Listed Travel Associates Plate.

"It is a matter of getting the right horse for the right race. We usually head to Brisbane when we have a horse we feel will be competitive," Lees said.

Sydney trainer James Cummings has booked in-form jockey Robbie Fradd to partner The Special Two in the Nudgee Quality.

The mare hasn't raced since October but has had two recent Randwick barrier trials to prepare for her return and three of her four wins have come first-up from a spell.
