Racing Queensland has reacted to widespread criticism and amended the balloting conditions for the major weight-for-age races over the Brisbane winter carnival, including the Doomben 10,000.

Several top-ranking horses missed crucial races at last year's carnival because of the previous rules.

Among them was Pornichet who failed to make the field for the Hollindale Stakes before winning the Group One Doomben Cup.

The previous conditions were based on a horse's overall career prize money earnings, while the new system ranks horses on prize money won over the preceding two-year period.

The changes will affect the Victory Stakes, Hollindale Stakes, BTC Cup, Doomben Cup, Doomben 10,000, Lord Mayor's Cup, Eagle Farm Cup and Tattersall's Tiara.

The changes to the ballot conditions follows a review by Racing Queensland which consulted the Brisbane Racing Club, Australian Trainers' Association and 15 of Australia's leading trainers.
