Winx cruises to third in barrier trial

Tuesday 19 January 2016, 8:37am

Cox Plate winner Winx has been given an easy time in a barrier trial at Rosehill, running third in a 900m heat won by sprinter Our Boy Malachi from Solicit.

The trial on Tuesday was the first public appearance by Winx since her dominant win in the Cox Plate in October with trainer Chris Waller yet to announce when she will make her race return.

The mare is the favourite to win Sydney's richest race, the $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes on April 9.

Our Boy Malachi is on the comeback trail for Hawkes Racing after suffering a bleeding attack in the Doomben 10,000 in May followed by surgery for colic.

He took the lead early in the trial to put around three lengths on Solicit with Winx cruising into third under a hold.

Our Boy Malachi's stablemate Sooboog won the second of two trials for Group and Listed performers, holding off Happy Galaxy and Redzel.
