Michelle Payne bringing Husson Eagle back after winning the $1,000,000 Magic Millions Sprint

What a week we have just witnessed on the Gold Coast.

To say I was thrilled with our involvement would be an understatement.  Husson Eagle’s win in the $1million Magic Millions Sprint was the culmination of six months planning and our thanks go to Patrick Payne for a job well done.  Our decision to give him more time off and skip the Melbourne Spring Carnival was a winner.  The horse is still maturing and once he reaches full maturity will be one hell of a sprinter.

Michelle’s ride on the horse was faultless.  Her riding has gone to a new level in recent times. She knows Husson Eagle well and had him perfectly positioned behind the speed and moved him into the race at the right time to win in course record time.  Husson Eagle joins Atalanta Miss and Rumeron as Magic Millions winners for us during the past twelve months

Husson Eagle and Atalanta Miss stabled with Peter Robl at Randwick to break up the trip from Melbourne and give them the opportunity to have a run the reverse way of going. Our thanks go to him and his staff for the great job they did for us during the two weeks we were there.

Husson Eagle spelled at Yarraman Park near Scone during the winter and he thrived in the mild conditions under the watchful eye of Harry Mitchell. I plan to use Yarraman to spell more of our Victorian based horses during the cold winter months.

Husson Eagle’s win brought up a treble for Prime Thoroughbreds for the weekend with the Kris Lees trained Savoureux returning to the winners list at Canterbury and the John Moloney trained Maldicion winning at Cranbourne on Friday night.  These wins were very satisfying and our young team of horses are starting to produce the results I hope for.

Maldicion was the first winner trained by John Moloney for Prime Thoroughbreds and she may well head to Tasmania for The Listed Strutt Stakes and Tasmanian Oaks.  John is recovering from his broken leg and was in great spirits after the win.

MAGIC MILLIONS YEARLING PURCHASES

This year’s Magic Millions Sale broke all records and was the biggest grossing sale held in the Southern Hemisphere since 2008.  I had the most yearlings vetted for any sale I have attended and I am very pleased with the five yearlings I purchased.  The Savabeel colt I purchased is the most expensive horse ever purchased by Prime Thoroughbreds at $510,000.

The breakup of yearlings is as follows:

Lot 2 Sebring/A Quiet Shandy filly Kris Lees

Lot 484 Savabeel / On Broadway colt John Thompson

Lot 667 Smart Missile / Tantsima filly Patrick Payne

Lot 841 Magic Albert / Shine On Anna filly Tony Gollan

Lot 921 I Am Invincible / Cathead filly John Moloney

These join the Hinchinbrook and I Am Invincible fillies I purchased before Christmas for John Thompson and Darren Weir. I am in the process of having the Product Disclosure Statements approved by Racing Victoria and will be in a position to start sending out information packs from next Monday.  I have attached some information on the yearlings I purchased.  They are an impressive group.

Savoureux winning as she liked at Canterbury

ON THE TRACK

As well as the outstanding performances put in by Husson Eagle, Savoureux and Maldicion we had good runs from Makeadane, Awasita, Raido and Naranja.  Our only disappointing effort was from Atalanta Miss. She wasn’t quite up to the task in a strong field and will be freshened and aimed at races against her own sex and age group.

I will update our upcoming runners later in the week.

SOME OF OUR NEW ADDITIONS

Savabeel – On Broadway John Thompson to train

Magic Albert – Shine On Anna Tony Gollan to train
