Victoria to trial 30 minute time intervals

Thursday 7 January 2016, 6:44am

Victoria will hold a one-week trial of condensed race meetings in February.

Starting with the Caulfield meeting on February 6, races will be held every 30 minutes, on the hour and half-hour.

Racing Victoria's Racing Operations manager Paul Bloodworth said the trial would reduce the race day by an hour at metropolitan meetings and between 45 and 60 minutes at provincial meetings.

"As other sports implement innovative customer engagement initiatives, the time is ripe to put 30-minute gaps to the test and trial them over a period of time where we can assess the impacts," Bloodworth said.

He said the trial would give Racing Victoria a better understanding of the impacts on its operations, wagering and the racing participants.
