Weir taking team for work at Terang

Sunday 3 January 2016, 12:55pm

Trust In A Gust will further his preparation for a return to racing with a track gallop at Terang.

The five-year-old hasn't raced since finishing seventh in the Aurie's Star Stakes at Flemington in August and is set to return in the Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley on January 23.

Trust In A Gust gave Weir with his first Group One success in Victoria in the Rupert Clarke Stakes before taking out the Toorak Handicap during the 2014 spring carnival.

After he returned with a second placing at Caulfield in April, Trust In A Gust's Doomben 10,000 mission was aborted when he played up while being loaded onto the Brisbane bound plane.

After the Auries's Star, X-rays revealed a bone chip in a stifle which required an operation, ruling him out of the spring.

Weir said Trust In A Gust was coming to hand nicely and would take benefit from Tuesday's gallop.

"He'll be ready then to have a jump-out in about 10 days time and ready to race not long after that," Weir said.

Weir will also take Mahuta and Lucky Hussler to Terang before they head to the Gold Coast for the Magic Millions meeting on Saturday.

Joining the team at Terang will be recent stable acquisition Manndawi, a last-start third behind Almoonqith in the Geelong Cup in October.

The imported stayer came to Australia in the care of English trainer Ed Dunlop.

Weir said Manndawi, who has had a suspensory ligament problem, has benefited from being trained at his beachside set-up at Warrnambool.

"He's been wading in the water and he's coming along really well," Weir said.

Weir is yet to determine a kick-off date for Manndawi or a target race for the gelding.
