The decision to geld Bachman has continued to pay dividends with the four-year-old winning the Listed Goldmarket Handicap at the Gold Coast.
Trainer Gerald Ryan has always had a big opinion of Bachman who was second in the Group Two Queensland Guineas during the winter carnival.
Bachman was gelded during his spell and won first-up at Randwick on December 5 before heading to Queensland.
The trainer's son Blake was at the Gold Coast representing the stable and said gelding Bachman would be the making of him.
"It was a tough decision for Dad but he always felt Bachman would be better as a gelding and we had the operation done during his break," Ryan said.
"Bachman will now press on to the Magic Millions Cup over 1400 metres and that should suit him very well."
Bachman lifted his prize money to just over $400,00 with the win and should have no trouble making the Magic Millions Cup field on January 9.
Winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy said he was pleased with the way Bachman hit the line and he was looking forward to the Millions Cup.
The race marked the last call for Sky Channel's Alan Thomas who is retiring aged 64.
"I called my first race here (the Gold Coast) in 1971 and what a ride it has been," Thomas said choking back tears.
He spent the day calling races in the grandstand rather than from the caller's box.
"I wanted to be with the punters who supported me throughout my career," he said.
