Grand Syndicates emulate value in racehorse syndication

Pound for pound as they say, and especially dollar for dollar in this case, is there another racehorse syndication company in Australia going better than Grand Syndicates?

Known for their unique selling point of selling shares in their 20 member syndicates for ‘a grand’ ($1,000) apiece, the Grand horses racing in the familiar black and gold colours are giving their budget conscious owners a great ride for their money.

This week’s Grand winners Gee Whizzer (Kilmore) and Belle Voleur (Kembla) are just two examples of horses bought for very little money but giving their owners a terrific ride for very little outlay. “It’s our job to find horses that we think can be competitive for less than $20,000 so that we can then offer them out at a thousand bucks a share” said Grand Syndicates owner Peter Morley. ‘ It means firstly that everyone can be racehorse owners, and secondly that if we do get a slow one-as we all do in racing from time to time, no one’s lost the family fortune. To get it right, we’ve got to be particularly canny at the yearling sales. It just about makes it the toughest job in racing, but we’re all about giving people the opportunity to get involved in racehorse ownership for very little outlay, and fortunately, we’ve been getting it right more times than not.”

When asked about their best horse to date, Morley had no hesitation in naming Khutulun as Grand’s flagbearer. “Khutulun’s been our best money spinner to date. She only cost $16,000 as a yearling and that was one of our more expensive purchases. She’s won over $215,000 in prizemoney now and when she won at Kyneton two starts ago, one of our owners told me it was the best thousand bucks he’d ever spent”.

Grand’s Racing Manager Sam Lyons works closely with the various trainers looking after the syndicated horses and keeps their owners updated on a weekly basis. In only their third year of operation, Sam said that 2015 had been a big year for Grand Syndicates having produced a multitude of winners including Gilchrist, Hawaiian Rose, Secret Business, Bizarre, Peppermint Lane, Champagnelifestyle, Lilly The Filly, Man Of His Word, Media Maid, Tykiato, and the afore mentioned Khutulun, Gee Whizzer and Belle Voleur. With a stable full of talented young horses and more bargain priced yearlings to find in 2016, Sam’s out there spreading the word to potential Grand owners #JoinTheTeamIn16!
