Hopes free to train pending appeal hearing

Tuesday 24 November 2015, 12:51pm

Father-and-son training partners Lee and Shannon Hope are free to train pending an appeal over their cobalt disqualifications.

The Hopes were granted a stay of proceedings at a Victorian Civil Administrative Board hearing on Tuesday.

Last week Shannon Hope was disqualified for five years and Lee for three years after they had earlier been found guilty of administering cobalt to affect the performance of Best Suggestion, Choose and Windy Citi Bear in races last year.

A five-day VCAT hearing, to commence on February 8, will hear a review of the decisions of the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board to disqualify the pair and also of find them guilty of administering a prohibited substance to affect performance.

Racing Victoria stewards opposed the granting of the stay.
