Ljung in spotlight with important mounts

Thursday 19 November 2015, 11:43am

Toowoomba apprentice Emma Ljung is set to burst back onto the city racing scene with two key rides at Doomben on Saturday.

Ljung was being tipped to be the next leading apprentice in Brisbane after she rode her first city winner on Tukiyo at Doomben on June 27.

However, Ljung, who had ridden 57 winners for the season, went to the Toowoomba night meeting where she broke her collar bone in a fall.

She didn't return until early October and has since ridden six winners including Taiyoshin at Ipswich on Wednesday.

Ljung has been booked for key chances Col 'N' Lil in the Sky Racing Handicap and Tukiyo in the Listed Arcade Classic (1200m) on Saturday.

"Emma is a very good rider and she will make her mark in the city before long," said her master John Dann.

Meanwhile, Racing Queensland has confirmed it will run a State of Origin jockeys series involving Brisbane and interstate riders next month.

The races will be held on four consecutive Saturdays at Doomben and the Gold Coast with Craig Williams (Victoria), Tye Angland (NSW), and Opie Bosson and Damian Browne (New Zealand) in the interstate team.

Melbourne-based Glen Boss will join top Brisbane riders in the Queensland team.
