Ryan produces another Snitzel to win

Saturday 19 January 2013, 2:30pm

The progeny of Snitzel and trainer Gerald Ryan are a formidable combination with Centrepet the latest to claim a metropolitan victory.

The filly, a $5 chance, ran out a decisive winner of the 1100m Benchmark 75 for three-year-olds at Rosehill on Saturday, beating Darley colt Chiaramonte by 1-1/4 lengths.

Ryan, who trained Snitzel to his 2006 Oakleigh Plate win, said his only regret was that the horse didn't race on at four.

"He was the best horse I've ever trained," Ryan said.

"But now I get to train his progeny. They are good little racehorses. They never go shin sore and they are all different.

"People think they are speedy two-year-olds but I think they get better as they get older as this filly has."

Centrepet's win was even more significant because Ryan trained her mother Miss Rainmaker and maternal grandsire Hurricane Sky, winner of the 1994 Blue Diamond Stakes.

"Triple Crown Syndications bought this filly. They are great owners and buy a lot of Snitzels and send them back to me so I'm happy," Ryan said.

Centrepet's full brother Mr Rainmaker missed a start in Saturday's Inglis Classic and will make his debut at Warwick Farm next Saturday.

The most accomplished of the Snitzels Ryan has so far trained, Golden Slipper runner-up Snitzerland, is due back at the races on March 16 at Warwick Farm.

"She will run in the Challenge Stakes and then the Galaxy," Ryan said.

"We'll look at options after that but Queensland is a possibility."
