Muzyka plays the right tune for Oaks

Wednesday 4 November 2015, 4:20pm

Muzyka's trainer Gerald Ryan has cleared up any confusion about how to pronounce the filly's name in the hope she is called across the line first in the VRC Oaks.

"It's Musica as in music," Ryan said.

The filly finished third in last Saturday's Wakeful Stakes (2000m) and goes to the 2500m-Classic five days later in great shape.

Muzyka is in fact the maiden name of Camilla Flower who owns her in partnership with her husband Damion.

She was named before she left the Magic Millions sales ring after the Flowers paid $140,000 for the filly who was conceived in Ireland.

"On the catalogue I wrote "OAKS FILLY" and "MUZYKA"," Damion Flower said.

"Gerald and I picked her out early. She is by Danehill Dancer out of a Galileo mare who is a full sister to Mahler who finished third in a Melbourne Cup for Aidan O'Brien.

"She was conceived in Ireland and Coolmore brought the mother, Music In My Heart, to Australia in foal.

"I think a lot of buyers at the sale were there to buy early-running two-year-olds for the Magic Millions and we were looking for a filly to run in the Oaks."

Ryan said Muzyka had thrived on her first trip away from her Sydney home.

"I can't believe how well she has done here," he said.

"My best hope is if they go fast. She is a grinder and she is bred to stay.

"The Oaks has always been the plan. That's what she is bred for."

Wakeful Stakes winner Ambience is the second favourite at $3.90 behind Sacred Eye ($3.50) while Muzyka is a $17 chance.
