Black Caviar to gallop at Caulfield

Thursday 17 January 2013, 5:43pm

Black Caviar's fitness levels will be put to the test in a raceday gallop at Caulfield on February 2.

Trainer Peter Moody and co-owner Neil Werrett have dismissed a report the unbeaten champion is many kilograms overweight ahead of her return in the Lightning Stakes at Flemington which has been renamed in her honour.

The work-out will be the mare's first public appearance since her victory in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June after which she was diagnosed with muscle tears.

The gallop on her home track coincides with the Melbourne Racing Club's National Jockeys' Trust day.

"We are so pleased to give the public of Melbourne the opportunity to come and see Black Caviar as she prepares to embark upon her final campaign," MRC chief executive Alasdair Robertson said.

Black Caviar's 22 wins include 12 at Group One level including the past two runnings of the Lightning (1000m).

Earlier this week she was named the world's best sprinter for the third successive year with an international rating of 130.
