Freedman has Karaka Million double in mind

Wednesday 16 January 2013, 6:08pm

Trainer Anthony Freedman is considering a return assault on New Zealand's richest race with the promising two-year-old Minaj.

Freedman got a good idea of what it takes to win the $NZ1 million Karaka Million when he claimed it as his first attempt with Ockham's Razor last year.

And he believes Minaj is the right horse for the race.

"This is a good, speedy filly who'll put herself into a race like that," said Freedman's foreman Ash Yargi at Sandown on Wednesday.

"She's still in the race at this stage and we'll make a final decision soon."

Ockham's Razor was the second Australian trained two-year-old to win the Karaka Million following on from the Liam Birchley-trained Sister Havana in 2010.

Yargi also reported that Freedman had completed his relocation from Rye on the Mornington Peninsula to his new base at Flemington this week, a move that brings the stable the full circle in Melbourne.

The Freedman brothers set up their first Melbourne operation, Barclay Lodge at Flemington in 1983, later moving to Caulfield and then to the private complex, Markdel at Rye.

Lee Freedman, the operation's former principal trainer, announced this week he would establish a pre-training and rehabilitation centre at Markdel, having abandoned his training partnership with Graeme Rogerson.
