Trainer Rob Heathcote admits he may have been tricked by new stable acquisition Quick Snitzel.

Quick Snitzel turned in an eye-catching run when he came from last to finish second behind in-form Lock's Legend two weeks ago.

The effort gives Quick Snitzel a great chance to break his Queensland duck in the Tox Free Handicap on Saturday.

Quick Sniztel was originally trained by Peter Moody in Melbourne and won five races before he was transferred to Heathcote in Brisbane.

The gelding has not finished worse then fifth in six starts for Heathcote.

"He is a six-year-old now and I think he conned us a bit early on because he was jumping out and getting into a handy position in his races. But he wasn't finishing them off," Heathcote said.

"Rob Slade, who has a syndicate racing the gelding, suggested we ride him quietly back in the field. We did that last start and he charged home at the finish.

"We will ride him that way again on Saturday and there should be some pace on."

He said jockey Ryan Wiggins seemed to have worked out Quick Snitzel which is eligible for the $10 million Magic Millions raceday on January 9.

Heathcote will continue his affinity with the offspring of Mossman when Shoneck Affair runs in the DPMA Handicap.

The trainer has had great success with the Mossman breed, most notably with star sprinter Buffering.

He has a promising three-year-old by Mossman named Privalaka which won a Deagon trial impressively.

Heathcote usually buys at least one Mossman at the Magic Millions yearling sales each year and Shoneck Affaire cost $70,000.

The favourite is the Gillian Heinrich-trained Star Of Pompeii which won a Gold Coast trial by eight lengths.
