Dandino is one of 13 horses looking to enhance their prospects of a Melbourne Cup start with victory in the Geelong Cup.

The Darren Weir-trained Dandino will pass the first ballot clause if successful in Wednesday's 2400m race.

Second behind Fawkner in the 2013 Caulfield Cup, Dandino is the $3.40 favourite at Geelong after finishing fourth in the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington on October 4.

Dandino ran fifth to Fiorente in the 2013 Melbourne Cup while injury robbed him of his chance in the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups last year.

While a Geelong Cup win will get Dandino past the first ballot clause he will need a penalty to force his way further up the Melbourne Cup ballot order.

European visitor and Geelong Cup topweight, Quest For More, is 26th in the order of entry for the Melbourne Cup which has a maximum field of 24.

Media Puzzle (2002), Americain (2010) and Dunaden (2011) are recent foreign raiders to win the Geelong-Melbourne Cup double.

De Little Engine, Don Doremo and Ethiopia need to win the Geelong Cup to pass the first ballot clause.
