Nivison a challenge for Schweida's Girl

Thursday 15 October 2015, 3:31pm

Miss Cover Girl returns to the scene of her biggest win when she runs in the Nivison at Randwick.

But trainer Kelly Schweida admits the mare has a tougher task in Saturday's Group Three sprint than when she won in Sydney in the autumn.

Miss Cover Girl has won seven of her 15 starts including her all-the-way romp in the Group Three PJ Bell Stakes at Randwick on a heavy track.

However, she didn't hit the line as expected when third in a Doomben open handicap over 1050m at her first run back from a spell on October 3.

Schweida admitted he was disappointed with the mare's effort and he had expected better.

"But for all that she did have a very good blow after the race," Schweida said.

"The 1000 metres around Doomben really isn't her go."

"I have done a few different things with her and I think she should be fitter."

Miss Cover Girl has drawn barrier 12 in the Nivison (1200m) and Schweida is yet to decide the race tactics.

"I will have a good talk with Glen (jockey Colless) and decide which way to go. She usually gets back but her only start at Randwick she was able to lead and win.

"The Sydney mares' races have had small fields of late but this is a full field which is no help from the barrier."
